Frequently Asked Questions

How can I stop the subscription renewal?

When you purchase a subscription your credit card gets charged once only and this then enables the subscription for the entire period.

Our subscriptions are NOT automatically renewed, so there is no need to actually cancel the subscription. Instead you will get notified of the expiry a month before the subscription ends and you can then decide to subscribe again or simply do nothing and let the subscription expire.

If you let the subscription expire the software will automatically turn into a “viewer”, which means that you can view your documents but can no longer save them.

If you decide that you want to renew the subscription you can simply come to our website and purchase another subscription license key and then enter it into the program using the Licensing Wizard.

The program says 'License Key Invalid'
There are 4 different editions of IdeaMapper (IdeaMapper, IdeaMapper4Kids, IdeaMapper4Students and IdeaMapperPro) and a license key for one edition will *not* work in another edition.

If you have installed multiple editions of the program, for example IdeaMapper and IdeaMapper4Students we would recommend that you first uninstall both editions and then download and install the edition you actually want to use.

Also, once the license has been activated by the program we would recommend that you restart your computer before using the program.

Browser Beta version information

The browser version of our software uses a technology called WebAssembly which is very new and is only available in recent versions of browsers. We are making these versions available on an “as is” basis with no warranties whatsoever. While they are not ready for “prime time”, you can now trial this exciting new development of our software.

You cannot download this software to your device. However, once opened you can bookmark the page or you can install it as a shortcut or application.

Most of the functionality of the desktop versions of the software is available but there may be bugs present which may mean that the software crashes and that data gets lost. (You have been warned 😉 )

These versions currently have several severe limitations:

  • Requires an internet connection. The program resides on our server and will be downloaded every time you open it.
  • Features may change or may be disabled without notice. The software is still undergoing major development and we therefore recommend that you only use these versions for trialing.
  • Requires a recent browser based on the Chromium engine with WebAssembly support. The software should run fine in recent versions of Google Chrome (minimum version 57), Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, New Microsoft Edge and Opera. Other browsers may work. We will add browser specific information to our website, please bear with us.
  • Will also work in many recent Google Chromebook laptops (requires minimum chrome version 57) but will not work well if the Chromebook is slow.
  • Does not autosave files. Any changes you make will be lost if you close the browser tab. Make sure you save your work.
  • Settings are not saved. When you change any settings in the program these may not be saved and you may have to reset the settings every time you access the browser version.
  • Does not currently support text-to-speech or camera input.
  • Currently uses the “menu bar/tool bar” user interface only.

We are obviously working on all of the above limitations, but in the meantime we have made this version available for you to try. We would very much appreaciate any feedback you may have. Please do not hesitate to send us a message via our support request page.

License types

Introduction

This document describes the different license types that are supported by IdeaMapper software. You may not be able to buy every type of license.

License Activation

IdeaMapper software requires node locking through an activation mechanism. We do appreciate that this makes the installation more cumbersome but have no choice but to use this mechanism to ensure that users adhere to the conditions laid out in the end user license agreement which accompanies the software.

License Types

Single User License Perpetual License
This license type enables a single user to activate the software on up to 2 computers. There is not time limit for this license.

Single User Subscription License

This license type enables a single user to activate the software on up to 2 computers for a limited time only, the exact duration is specified in the license itself. The first activation of a particular subscription license is taken as the start date of the license.

Example: If the license specifies 24 months and you activate the license for the first time on January 20th 2020 you may activate and use the software on up to 2 computers and use it on those computers until February 2022.

Multiple User Perpetual License

This license type enables a number of users to activate the software on up to twice as many computers as the license specifies.

Example: If the license specifies a 5 user license then you may activate the software on up to 10 computers.

Multiple User Subscription License

This license type enables a number of users to activate the software on up to twice as many computers as the license specifies for the duration specified in the license. The first activation of that license starts the subscription period for the entire license.

Example: If the license specifies a 5 user 36 month license and you activate the software for the first time on January 20th 2020 then you may activate the software on up to 10 computers and use the software until February 2023.

Site Subscription License

This license type enables a limited number of licenses to be obtained and activated on computers that access the internet through a given range of IP addresses. This license is typically used by organisations to give all staff members or students access to the software. This is only available as subscription license and the start and end dates of this subscription form part of the license. The computer does not have to remain connected to the internet to use the software.

Example: Your college purchases a 12 month subscription license starting October 2019. Users install the software and when running the software for the first time use the licensing wizard to obtain a site license for their computer.

Email (“Take Home”) License

This license type enables a limited number of licenses to be obtained and activated by users who have an email address for a particular email domain. This license is typically used by organisations wishing to give staff members or students access to the software who are not on site. The computer does not have to remain connected to the internet to use the software.

Example: Your company Example Inc purchases a 12 month email license and all staff members have an email address for the domain @example.com. User Joe Bloggs installs the software and when running the software for the first time he uses the licensing wizard to request an email license which is emailed to the supplied email address (joe.bloggs@example.com).

General Information

All our software is licensed. As a user you do not own the software but you purchase a right for it’s use. Please consult our EULA that came bundled with your software for more information.

License Key

A license key is an alphanumeric character string of 16 characters which contains information about the license you have purchased, for example yy24-yn5y-ali8-86hp. When you purchase a license you will receive a license key.

License Key Activation

Software takes a lot of work to create and relatively little work to copy. We encourage you to make copies of the program installer files for safe keeping or to give to your friends and colleagues so they can install a trial version of the program. However, the license key must only be entered on the specified number of computers according to the end user license agreement (EULA) which accompanies the program.

How does License Key Activation work?

Once you have entered your license key, the key must be activated within 30 days. The program will remind you every time you start it that the key has to be activated. Activation means that your key, together with some information about your computer will be sent to the activation server and, once verified, an activation key which is locked to your computer, will be sent back and the license will be activated. The information sent to our activation site does not contain any personal identifiable information. We do verify that the license will only be activated on as many computers as permitted.

Please note: If you have previously activated your license key and then reinstalled your computer’s operating system you may find that the software activation will fail. In this case please contact our activation team or software support with your license key so that we can re-authenticate your license key.

Spark-Space offers the following activation methods:

  • Online Activation through the Internet (recommended)
  • Website Activation (using your computer’s Web-Browser)
  • Manual Activation via E-Mail

The first two options can be done online in a matter of minutes. For the other options manual intervention by the activation team is required and it may take up to two business days for the activation key to be returned to you.

To activate your software, click on Help and then “Activate License Key”. This will start the License Activation Wizard dialog where you can choose the activation method. Please follow the instructions displayed by the program to activate the license.
